About the guide
Thailand runs for more than 1,500 km from the hills of the Golden Triangle to the islands near Malaysia. Discover Thailand is a complete travel guide to the country: when to go, how to get around, where to stay, what to eat, what it costs, how to behave at temples, and which coast to choose in each season.
The series
Thailand is a different trip in Bangkok and on the islands, and the Andaman and Gulf coasts have their rainy seasons at different times of year. The complete guide covers the whole country, and three companion books go deeper: an islands edition, a Bangkok edition and a guide to Thai street food.

The complete guide
Mornings at the temples, afternoons on the river, evenings at a night market. The travel guide is built around regions, rail and ferry routes and easy day trips, with maps for each area.

Limestone & sea
The towers of Phang Nga Bay, Krabi and Phi Phi are limestone that formed as reefs and sea-floor sediment millions of years ago. Rain and waves have since worn them into sheer cliffs, sea caves and hidden lagoons. On the other side of the peninsula, the Gulf islands of Samui, Phangan and Tao are granite, with rounded boulders and palm-lined bays.

Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, Thonburi, then Bangkok. Siam was the only country in Southeast Asia never colonised by a European power. The guide opens with the story behind the temples and ruins you will visit.

Bangkok after dark
Bangkok is at its best once the heat goes out of the day. Street food stalls fill the pavements, the riverside temples are lit up, and rooftop bars look out over one of the biggest cities in Asia. A few evenings spent eating your way through the night markets is part of any first trip.

The companion editions
From November to February the weather is at its coolest and driest across most of the country. March to May is the hot season. From May to October the monsoon brings rain to the Andaman coast, while the Gulf islands have their wettest months from October to December. Each companion book shows how to make the most of that.

Beyond the postcards
Away from the busiest beaches the country slows right down: mountain villages in the north, rice fields and Khmer ruins in Isan, and island shores where the only sound is the sea. The guide points you there too.
